Morocco: Souk Shopping

Traveling is never complete without the much awaited shopping stop. Of course, when in Morocco don't miss the chance to shop in the traditional Moroccan souk.

In Fez, we stopped by the traditional leather shops. Did you know that you can differentiate real leather from faux leather by using fire? So next time you're being sold some leather, fire testing can substitute the typical scratching method. We were also able to tour the shop's backyard where we witnessed the leather making process. Leather, as it is made from animal skin, smells horrible! It was almost unbearable. Imagine having fresh leather good can be iritating already. What more if it's a bunch of leather hide itself? Good thing we were given some mint leaves to help us bear with the smell.

Another shopping stop was in Marrakech. We stopped by Djemaa el Fna square located in the city's medina quarter. The square is frequented by locals and tourists alike. Here you can find Moroccan street food, dried fruits and souvenirs among others. Street performers were everywhere as well. Souk shoppings are worth the experience.
